It was the 11th day of August 2008, when our founder Abhinav Bindra created history by becoming the first Indian ever to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics by winning 10m Air Rifle event. With his decade-long hard work, undying spirit of sportsmanship and determination to bring glory to India, he became the youngest recipient of Padma Bhushan in the year 2009, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India. He finally called curtains on his carrier in professional sport in 2016 after Rio Olympics. Having experienced the benefits of technology and sports science during his Olympic journey, he wanted to make similar services available to fellow Indian athletes and Olympic aspirants.
It was here that he started Abhinav Bindra: Targeting Performance (ABTP) centers across India. SAI-Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Centre in Bangalore, an initiative by The Abhinav Bindra Foundation- ‘In support of excellence’ is one such project aimed at allowing Indian athletes to train using best facilities and technology to enhance their skills and fitness. The main aim is to support aspiring young athletes in India on the road to success through Sports Aid Foundation.
